Puerto de la Cruz - Tenerife Travel Guide

A stunning island with amazing scenery, year round sunshine and great restaurants and nightlife.

Something for everyone from nature lovers to sun worshippers.

•What's Tenerife like? It's perfect destination for that great family holiday. Tenerife is warm (23c) all-year-round with amazing beaches, whose fine sands vary from golden through to volcanic grey and black. Famous for its volcanic moonscapes, lush green forests, warm sparkling waters and quaint villages.

•Holidays in Puerto de La Cruz: Puerto de la Cruz is in northern Tenerife whose lush landscape and beautiful beaches attracts sun worshippers, walkers and nature lovers.

•What are the beaches like at Puerto de la Cruz? Fabulous! With two beaches central to Puerto de la Cruz to choose from, plus a further 3 more a short drive away. The two closest to Puerto de la Cruz are:

•Playa Jardin: close to the resort, wide, crescent shaped beach with dark volcanic sand.

•Martianez beach and lido: the end of the beach nearest the lido has a breakwater which prevents the ocean swell reaching the beach and so makes for calm swimming conditions, most of the time. At the other end, towards the cliffs, is an area popular with surfers and body boarders where there is no barrier to break the waves.

•The other three are: El Socorro - a surf beach, plus two rather isolated beaches - El Bollulo and El Pozo.

•Family holidays in Puerto de la Cruz: Most of 4* and 5* resorts in Puerto de la Cruz have children's swimming pools, kids' clubs and entertainment. The resort itself has water parks and attractions such as Loro Parque (Parrot World). Don't let the name put you off, it has a lot more than just parrots; in fact it has whales and dolphins and is highly rated by our holidaymakers.

•Spas in Puerto de la Cruz

: The Hotel Botanico, which can be booked through us, has a stunning spa .The Oriental Spa Garden is set amid the hotel's gardens and has 22 individual cubicles and 3 private Spa cabins for couples. The outdoor and indoor thermal circuits have a Japanese sauna, Oriental laconium, Turkish bath and aromatherapy room. •Excursions: Visit the volcano at Teide National Park - an immense landscape sculpted by lava; and the beautiful city of Santa Cruz. Visit the stunning white modernist Tenerife Auditorio which has music and concerts in a spectacular setting. Also, the historic town of La Orotava which spreads across the valley of banana plantations from which the town gets its name.

•When is the best time to visit? Anytime, and if you want it a little less busy, avoid the school holidays. But if you really want to see the true spirit of Tenerife, try and be here for one of its many fiestas. Check out the calendar of festive celebrations at www.webtenerife.com. Or come for Christmas.

•Eating out in Puerto de la Cruz: You will eat very well here. And at great prices. There is traditional and international cuisine, bars, pubs and cafes and upmarket restaurants serving food all day and late into the night. Don't forget to try the local cheeses and wines, tasty rabbit dishes, Canarian potatoes (papas arrugadas), mojo pican sauce, seafood and amazing fish dishes. Something for everyone. Plus there are some superb fish restaurants down on the harbour.

•The nightlife in Puerto de la Cruz: There is so much to do - 'place your bets mesdammes and messieurs's' and check out the stunning casino Puerto de La Cruz in the centre of the Martianez lido. There's also a wealth of bars, superb restaurants and clubs.

•Christmas in Puerto de la Cruz?

Many of our hotels do special Christmas deals and when you see the weather it's not hard to see why they are so popular, plus no one gets stuck cooking lunch or doing the washing up. On Christmas Day Eve, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra performs a Christmas concert in the port ending with fireworks.

•Nature in Tenerife: The Botanical Gardens were created in 1788 and are stunning. The Garcia Sanabria Park is over 67,000 square metres and has many wonderful walks. Plus there are fabulous orchids at Sitio Litre, the oldest garden on the island. You should also visit Parque Taro above the town with stunning views, gardens, fountains and waterfalls.

  1. Tenerife is indeed a good place to visit. We didn't get to see the entire island. But what we saw, we liked.
