•Experience traditional Spain Visit the local tapas bars or the surrounding villages such as La Carihela which has simple houses covered in bougainvillea where the locals sit outside playing dominoes and drinking anis in the sunshine. Or visit nearby Mijas. Cuesta del Tajo, at the end of Calle San Miguel (the main promenade), has steep steps leading down to the old fishing district of El Bajondillo which has restaurants and souvenirs kiosks leading down to the beach.

•Top Secret Torremolinos! El Calvario is a quiet area with tiny streets with bars. It is a bit of secret with independent travellers but if you want to explore the quieter side of Torremolinos it is just north of the main road through the town.

•Green Torremolinos: Torremolinos undoubtedly has lots of modern buildings but it also has a very green and verdant side. There are many public gardens with an incredible range of trees, over one thousand species in fact, ranging from magnolias to banana trees. Plus lots of colourful roses and azaleas. There are even three forests just on the outskirts with freshwater springs and barbecue facilities.

•Festivals in Torremolinos Like the rest of Andalucia, there are lots of festivals in Torremolinos and you really want to be here when they are on. There are festivals throughout the year with the town's patron saint festival at the end of September.
