Alvor - Algarve Travel Guide

Endless beaches, lovely old fishing harbour and great restaurants.

Beautiful scenery, fantastic hotels and great Golf.

•What is Alvor like? There is a lovely old town with narrow streets of friendly bars leading to a harbour and a natural lagoon with riverside restaurants. The beach is unspoilt and uncrowded.

•Here are the opinions of two of our customers who have enjoyed great holidays in Alvor: “Alvor - The jewel of Portugal. We want to tell everybody about Alvor and yet we want to keep it our secret!” - “Alvor is a great place. Old and new mixed together but you still get a traditional feel. Fish fantastic, people great. ”

•Top Alvor Tip: Get here soon while it is still relatively undiscovered. The beach is quieter than those in the nearby resorts. It is long with golden sands.

•Golf in Alvor and the Algarve: “If you are into golf and are staying in any of the Pestana group hotels in Alvor, you can get a fantastic discount on the Pestana golf courses Vale de Pinta and The Gramacho at Carvoiero. 50 Euros for 18 holes and in my humble opinion these are the best 2 golf corses on the Algarve. PS (13 handicapper).” commented one of our happy holidaymakers on a golfing holiday in Alvor.

•Things to do in Alvor: You can enjoy watersports at the nearby resorts of Praia de Rocha, Portimao and Praia da Vau. There is also a nature park at Quinta da Rocha. Explore the area around the church and Praça da República and the old castle which has 13th century relics; and a children's play area.”

•Eating out in Alvor and the Algarve: Our holidaymakers recommend: “A walk along the beach into the village of Alvor gave us an appetite to enjoy the wonderful fish and seafood available at the little restaurants near the old fishing harbour.” Grilled seafood, steak Portuguese and giant prawns piri piri are the local specialities.

•The best restaurant in Alvor? Judging by our holiday makers comments; there is an excellent choice but the beach café, the Captain's Table and Vagabondos have most votes so far. Tell your fellow Travel Republicans which restaurant in Alvor tickled your tastebuds when you get back.
