Malgrat de Mar - Costa Brava Travel Guide

Popular resort with families and silver surfers.

Perfect for exploring the beaches of Costa Brava and nearby Barcelona

•Malgrat de Mar: This popular resort has a pretty town, good beach, a lovely promenade and great hotels. Malgrat de Mar lies on the coast between Pineda de Mar and Blanes. Most hotels are near the promenade where there is a good choice of shops and bars, 5 minutes away from the beach. Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar are nearby and easily reached by the local train and buses.

•Malgrat de Mar is ideal for silver surfers, families and culture vultures.

•Visit the delightful city of Barcelona in just over an hour by train from the local railway station. It only costs about 6 Euros and you can spend a day visiting Gaudis' Sagrada Familia, the dancing fountains and Las Ramblas.

•Malgrat de Mar is a great spot from which to enjoy the theme parks of the Costa Brava such as Water World or to explore the rugged coastline of the Costa Brava further south.

•The town of Figueres is also not far and has a very wacky Dali museum.

•Top Silver Surfer Holiday Tip: The train station is a 10 minute walk away (15-20 for those not so fast on their feet) and it is all 'on the flat' as is the whole resort, great for wheelchair users and the older citizens.

•The beaches at Malgrat de Mar: The main beach is long with shallow, warm waters and golden fine shingle sands.

•Beaches nearby include Lloret and Tossa de Mar; and also the lovely resort of Santa Susanna which has a 2km long stretch of beach with windsurfing, water ski-ing, parasailing, kayaking and boat trips along the coast.

•Attractions near Malgrat de Mar At Marineworld there are more than 300 animals, dolphin and sea lion shows and a water park. And at WaterWorld, Europe's biggest water park, there are long raft rides, steep slides, fun pools and bungy jumps.

•A short walk from Malgrat de Mar takes you to Santa Susanna. This cosmopolitan resort has a picturesque old town of narrow cobbled streets set beneath the magnificent Massif Montnegre, a beautiful national park popular with hikers, horse riders and mountain bikers. There are also water taxis to the other local resorts such as Tossa de Mar or Lloret de Mar. Further along the beach to the south you can find secluded rocky coves; and further on small fishing villages nestling at the feet of magnificent cliffs
