•Protaras is a popular resort for singles, couples and families. It is was formerly known as Fig Tree Bay and it is 8km from Ayia Napa.

•It is about 4 and a quarter hours from the UK, with transfers about an hour from Larnaca airport depending on whether you travel by private taxi or shuttle bus.

•Beaches in Protaras: Protaras lies on four miles of golden sand nestling next to warm turquoise shallow waters. The best beaches on the island including Fig Tree Bay and Nissi Beach can be found in Protaras. Or you can explore the small coves to the north of the island but you will need a car. There's a great choice of watersports including paragliding, water skiing, jet skiing and diving. A quieter beach can be found at Cape Greko where the rocky shoreline provides some great snorkeling and diving.

•Eating out in Protaras? There is a good choice of traditional, modern and international cuisine. You must try out the Mezze which is a selection of local foods including dips, bread, olives; spanakopita,vine leaves stuffed with rice and meat; stuffed vegetables, casseroles and stews, plus the famous souvla or kebabs.
