Marbella -Costa del Sol Travel Guide

Superb beaches, great shops, top nightclubs and lots of fantastic restaurants.

Plus, watersports galore and 25 golf courses. No wonder it's so popular with just about everyone.

•Marbella Marbella is a Spanish paradise town which is both glamorous and friendly.

•Popular with celebrities, sports stars, golfers, party animals, sunworshippers and prosperous ex pats.

•It has a lovely beach, a charming old town, 25 golf courses, some fabulous designer shops, beautiful restaurants and sophisticated nightlife.

•The recent tv series 'Marbella Belles' with its glamorous ladies who lunch, look good and party hard is probably a fairly accurate reflection of life here.

•Driving here along the coast road is very easy and it's worth considering particularly if you plan on playing golf or doing a lot of shopping or visiting many of the wonderful sights within a two hour drive.

•Marbella is also a great location to explore the rest of the sunshine coast which includes the nearby marina of Puerto Banus, and the beach resorts of Estepona, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola.

•The beaches like in MarbellaThe beaches are immaculate with sun loungers and parasols. A good tip is to check out the Mistral Beach Club near Puerto Banus.

•Nikki Beach at MarbellaNikki Beach is a world wide brand with beaches in St Tropez, St Barths, Hollywood and Miami. Nikki Beach is set on a lovely part of the beach and offers its own watersports and boat transfer service. It serves fine food and cocktails while you laze on decadent white beds and loungers. There are regular sunset dinners and parties. To see how the other lives, even it's just for a day, you really should go for it.

•Eating Out in MarbellaThe food here is great with a wide range of trendy bars serving modern Spanish and international cuisine to traditional restaurants along the beachfront serving wonderful tapas and seafood dishes. Visit the old town for superb food in exceptional surroundings. And there plenty of places of British pubs and cafes for a traditional English breakfast.

•Nightlife in Marbella: There is a great choice of nightclubs; some of which will have dress codes so check them out well in advance of your big night out.

•When is the best time to visit Marbella? May - October for a serious tan. But the rest of the year offers up its own rewards.

•The weather all along the Costa del Sol is great all year round and you can have a lovely weekend and still hit the beach even in November; as well as doing all the other fun non-dependent-on-sunshine stuff, like eating well, winning at the casino or shopping till you drop into a nice comfy sofa cocktail in hand.

•Stags and Hens holidays in Puerto Banus. Could there be a more perfect destination for a top notch stags or hens holiday.

•Weekend breaks in Marbella?Mini-breaks in Marbella are what weekends were made for. It's quick and easy to fly here and there is so much to do; playing golf, pampering at one of the many spas in the area or simply shopping and relaxing poolside.

•Perfect weekend breaks in Marbella could include any of the following: sports fishing, clay pigeon shooting, go karting, waterpark, cable skiing, mountain biking, quad bikes, paintball, canyoning, hot air ballooning, horse riding, beach football, dolphin spotting, horse racing and golf.

•Spanish Football

Why not check out the football at Malaga FC or in Sevilla while you are away.

•Excursions

There are so many, here are just a few ideas;

•Animal Parks - Visit the nearby Selwo Safari Park at Estepona or Selwo Marine Park at Benalmedina, ride horses through the Lobo wolf park or visit the Crocodile Park in Torremelinos.

•Theme and Play Parks Tivoli world with 40 different rides, The Arcadia play park, Aqualand at Torremelinos, Casa Loca jungle gym, Aqua Park in Mijas and Funny Beach (which isn't really a beach but does have go karts, boat rides and fun stuff.)

•Or if the wallet can stretch a bit, there is luxury yacht charter or helicopter flights. And if you need to relax after that, there are also some great spas and beauty salons to relax in after the rigours of the clubs, the shops and the beaches.

•Shopping in Marbella There are two fabulous shopping centres; La Canada and the Lagunas shopping centre. Plus the El Cortes Ingles department store near Puerto Banus should be visited as it is the temple at which all serious shoppers in Spain worship. Plus in Mijas, there is the beautiful La Casa del Arte de la Sedan (the house of art on silk and jewellery).

•Excursions:There's a lot to explore in the area around Marbella; the villages of Ronda, Ojen and the white village of Mijas. Nearby Malaga is has a museum dedicated to its most famous son, Picasso.
