•Mellieha is one of Malta's most popular destinations. This picturesque, elegant hilltop town oozes olde worlde charm and splendour. It is about 2km inland from the beach at Mellieha Bay. The town is surrounded by lush countryside and has an old church with a grotto and tunnels used in WWII. To reach the incredible stretch of sands at the appropriately named Golden Bay take the road through the centre of town. Mellieha is home to fabulous hotels and restaurants. St. Paul's Bay is a short drive away in one direction and Meilleha and the ferryboat to the islands of Gozo and Comino with their incredible turquoise waters and caves, is only ten minutes in the other direction.

•Beaches in Mellieha: There are two beaches. The most popular one is the lovely Golden Bay.

•Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is more secluded and reached by a flight of steps. A 17th century watch-tower overlooks the bay. It's fine sands is lapped by sparkling clear waters.

•There are also a choice of beaches a short drive away including Parasaio and Hola beach.

•Eating Out in: The restaurants here serve fine food. There is a wide choice from traditional Maltese food to modern international cuisine, with great cafes and patisseries.

•Sightseeing in Mellieha: The local church has its own underground grotto. And you can visit the famous World War II shelters and see how the Maltese people earned that George Cross.

•The Xemxija Heritage Route is a great journey through Malta's history.

•The remains of the Neolithic Temples and their artefacts are exhibited at the National Museum of Archeology in Valletta. The temples were built between 3,600 and 2,500BC.

•When is the best time to visit Mellieha? Ideally in the summer months from May to October. Although temperatures are pretty good all year round, reaching up to 17 degrees C in December.

•The Our Lady of Victories Festival of Mellieha: During the first two weeks of September with the main feast day on the 8th September; there are concerts, fireworks, folk singing, art exhibitions and a religious procession.

Did you know? The word Mellieha comes from the Arabic for salt. Mellieha was developed partly by the British during colonial times. The village had been abandoned for two centuries due to fear of attacks by Corsairs and Saracens. The British government suggested people settle in this area and gave land leases to the locals. Needless to say it worked; and now many of the locals speak English and extend a warm welcome to their compatriots.
